Resveratrol Produces Neurotrophic Effects on Cultured Dopaminergic Neurons through Prompting Astroglial BDNF and GDNF Release

Astroglial BDNF and GDNF production was involved in resveratrol-mediated neurotrophic effects. Primary neuron-glia cultures were pretreated with resveratrol (100  M) followed by the treatment of anti-BDNF or anti-GDNF antibodies or combined these two antibodies on the first day. Seven days later, the [ ] DA uptake assay (a) and TH-positive neuronal counting analysis (b) were performed to determine resveratrol-mediated neurotrophic effects. Results were expressed as a percentage of the control cultures and were the mean ± S.E.M. from three independent experiments performed in triplicate. compared with the control cultures, compared with resveratrol-treated cultures.
