Flavonoids increase the mRNA levels of NGF, GDNF, and BDNF in cultured astrocytes in dose-dependent manner. The flavonoids calycosin, isorhamnetin, luteolin and genistein (1, 3, 10 M) were applied to cultured astrocytes for 48 hours. 17-estradiol at 100 nM served as the positive control. The mRNA levels of NGF, GDNF, and BDNF were measured by real-time quantitative PCR.
