Effect of Electroacupuncture on Rat Ischemic Brain Injury: Importance of Stimulation Duration

Figure 4

Statistical summary of EA effects on concentration of Moving Blood Cells. , Ischemia + EA versus Ischemia group during MCAO; , under reperfusion versus during MCAO in Ischemia group; , Ischemia + EA versus Ischemia group under reperfusion. Note that the MCAO greatly reduced the concentration of Moving Blood Cells (CMBC) to ~20% of the baseline and CMBC quickly increased to ~50% of the baseline after reperfusion. EA for 5–45 minutes significantly increased CMBC during MCAO to ~65% of the baseline. Within 15 minutes after reperfusion, CMBC further increased to ~80% of the baseline in the EA for 5–30 minutes groups, but not in the EA for 45 minutes group with its level being similar to that during MCAO.
