Diabetes mellitus (DM) rats were induced by combination of high-fat diet and streptozotocin described in Section 2. Jiang Tang Xiao Ke (JTXK) granule 9 g/kg (based on crude herbal material) and pioglitazone dissolved in distilled water were orally administrated to DM rats for 4 consecutive weeks. Normal and drug-untreated DM rats were treated with the vehicle. After that, fasting blood glucose (FBG) and random blood glucose (RBG) levels were measured using a glucometer. Values are expressed by means ± SE, with . ** versus normal rats; # versus DM rats. Statistically significant differences were determined using a one-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s post hoc analysis.
