Evaluation of the Effects of Some Brazilian Medicinal Plants on the Production of TNF-α and CCL2 by THP-1 Cells

Figure 1

Effects of the fractions from Brazilian plants on TNF-α release by LPS-activated THP-1 cells, assayed at different concentrations (62.5, 125, and 250 μg/mL): (a) Caryocar brasiliense, (b) Coccoloba cereifera, (c) Terminalia glabrescens, and (d) Casearia sylvestris. Data represent the mean inhibition (% ± SD) from three separate experiments. Differences in TNF-α release elicited by the fractions were analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by multiple comparisons of Newman-Keuls. In each fraction, # indicates significant inhibition of TNF-α release in comparison to LPS-stimulated cells (). D = dexamethasone (0.1 μM; positive control). TNF-α mean value of LPS-stimulated THP-1 cells was  pg/mL and the basal level was  pg/mL.
