Traditional Medicine for Treatment of Neurodegenerative Diseases
Description
Neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) such as Alzheimer disease (AD), Parkinson disease (PD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Huntington’s disease (HD), and multiple sclerosis (MS) are one of the leading causes of death all over the world. Traditional medicines (TM), including traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine, usually have good safety profiles and are widely used in alleviating common clinical disorders, including NDD. Recently elucidating the mechanisms of AD, PD, and other disorders at the molecular levels has advanced the rationale use and investigations of the mechanisms of action of these traditional medicines.
We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will promote the continuing efforts to further evaluate the effects and the potential usefulness of TM, including their active compounds, with sufficient levels of specificity and efficacy, especially mechanisms underlying AD, PD, and other types of NDD. We are particularly interested in articles clarifying the novel possible targets of traditional medicine for NDD by using both in vitro and in vivo tests in preclinical studies. Potential topics include, but not limited to:
- New trends of TM for NDD
- Basic theories and experimental research of TM for NDD
- Advance of research on NDD treatment or prevention by TM
- Development and testing of novel and effective compounds or composition derived from TM for NDD
- Application of modern science and technology to NDD prevention and therapy research on TM
- Investigation of mechanisms of action of TM to prevent NDD in cellular or animal models
- Crossed-discipline research of the thinking and methods of NDD prevention and therapy with TM
- Toxicological studies and safety evaluation of TM used for NDD treatment
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ecam/ndd/ according to the following timetable:
