Mechanisms, Efficacy, and Safety of Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi) for Cognitive and Brain Enhancement

Call for Papers

The aim of this special issue is to bring together several streams of research studies new and past on Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi). Over the last 5 years, there has been increasing evidence for the efficacy of Brahmi in improving cognition in humans; however, the field lacks proper synthesis with hundreds of studies published in disparate journals and using different methodologies. Some of these describe mechanisms of action on the brain and utilise in vitro animal and/or human methodologies, some investigate toxicology and safety issues, and some are published as single or double blind human clinical trials. The special issue will bring together experts to try to synthesis this huge literature and at the same time to look forward to potential applications using this herb. Given the potential use of Brahmi to improve cognition in the elderly and in dementia, the special issue should be widely read and cited. We invite authors to submit both original research articles as well as review articles. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanistic studies of Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) on brain processes
  • In vitro and in vivo studies on Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) for cognition, brain, and ageing
  • Systematic reviews on efficacy and safety of Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) in humans
  • Studies examining the effect of Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) on cognition
  • Reviews and theoretical perspectives of Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) as a cognitive enhancer across the lifespan
  • New potential uses of Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) in humans

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ecam/bcogn/ according to the following timetable:
