The aim of this special issue is to bring together several streams of research studies new and past on Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi). Over the last 5 years, there has been increasing evidence for the efficacy of Brahmi in improving cognition in humans; however, the field lacks proper synthesis with hundreds of studies published in disparate journals and using different methodologies. Some of these describe mechanisms of action on the brain and utilise in vitro animal and/or human methodologies, some investigate toxicology and safety issues, and some are published as single or double blind human clinical trials. The special issue will bring together experts to try to synthesis this huge literature and at the same time to look forward to potential applications using this herb. Given the potential use of Brahmi to improve cognition in the elderly and in dementia, the special issue should be widely read and cited. We invite authors to submit both original research articles as well as review articles.
