Traditional Chinese Medicine and Autonomic Disorders
Description
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) consists mainly of acupuncture, moxibustion, qigong, and herbal medicine. For thousands of years, TCM has been widely used in Asian countries. In recent years, several TCM techniques have been adopted in Western countries, where modified acupuncture-derived manipulations have developed, such as laser acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, and microsystem acupuncture. Nowadays, TCM has often been used as complementary treatment for diseases and conditions that do not respond satisfactorily to conventional medicine. Many such conditions are autonomic in origin. Autonomic disorders are frequently difficult to treat, because these are caused by chronic imbalance of vegetative organs as well as autonomic areas in the central nervous systems. Recent studies indicate that TCM can be effective for treating autonomic disorders, including digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular conditions, and even sexual dysfunction.
To gather the most up-to-date evidence concerning the effective use of TCM for the treatment of autonomic disorders, we invite authors to submit original and review articles pertaining to this very important field. Both basic and evidence-based clinical research covering TCM applied for treatment of autonomic disorders are invited.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Basic neurophysiological, neurochemical, and endocrinological bases of TCM for modulation of autonomic function, including peripheral and central nervous systems
- Endocrinological mechanisms of clinical effects induced by TCM
- Effective combination of multiple TCM modalities for autonomic disorders
- Pharmacological evidence of traditional Asian herbal medicine (e.g., Kampo) for the treatment of autonomic disorders
- Comparison of TCM and conventional medicine for the treatment of autonomic disorders
- Combination of TCM and conventional medicine for the treatment of autonomic disorders
- Effective use of laser acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, and microsystem acupuncture on autonomic disorders
