Evidence-Based Acupuncture for Nervous System Disease: Mechanism and Therapies
Call for Papers
Acupuncture is one of the most popular treatments in the field of alternative medicine and can be used in the treatment of diseases of the nervous system. In recent years, acupuncture, with its remarkable curative effect, has been gradually accepted in the field of Western medicine. Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other important international organizations on acupuncture have come to recognize it as an effective, safe, and scientific form of treatment. However, its mechanism of action remains unclear, even though acupuncture has been shown to have a clear effect in the treatment of certain diseases.
We are interested in articles that explore aspects of acupuncture mechanism in humans and in animal models as well. We invite authors to submit original research and review articles investigating evaluation criteria and methods concerning the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Evidence-based acupuncture for the treatment and rehabilitation of diseases of the nervous system
- Those that broaden the spectrum of acupuncture trials and clinical application of acupuncture treatment
- Those that investigate the influence of acupuncture on the cognitive function and markers of oxidative DNA damage in patients with vascular dementia
- Demonstrations of how acupuncture can elicit different physiologic responses in the CNS, neuroendocrine systems, and modulation of neurotransmitter release
- Studies that identify the biomarkers/correlates of acupuncture response to nervous system disease
- New cellular and animal models to acupuncture for nervous system diseases treatment and rehabilitation
- Comparison between acupuncture and academic treatments
- Meta-analytic studies on acupuncture treatment
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ecam/nervs/ according to the following timetable:
