Integrated Designs for Embedded Systems

Call for Papers

This special issue of the EURASIP Journal of Embedded Systems is intended to present innovative techniques in embedded systems designs. Embedded systems generally must meet stringent requirements of intended applications in system performance with limited resources like memory and power. Designing successful embedded systems to fulfill these requirements is an ever-increasingly challenging task. Typically, the application is known and fixed before the design stage of an embedded system. System developers can take advantage of the application specific information and make judicious decisions during the design phrase. An emerging theme is to integrate multiple design steps to better optimize the design goals of embedded systems. For example, considering architecture while designing the algorithms, compiler optimization while considering the underlying systems and networks, architecture design space exploration while considering application, are all examples of integrated design approaches for embedded system optimization. This special issue is intended to present this type of integrated techniques. The topics include, but are not limited to:

• Algorithm-architecture coexploration for embedded systems
• Architecture specific real-time operating system design and optimization
• Compiler optimizations on emerging architectures: SoC, MPSoC, ASIPS for embedded systems
• Integration of protocols, systems, and architecture in smart embedded sensors
• Verification and validation of the integrated design flow
• Application-specific Network-on-chip design
• Architecture-aware performance analysis
• Application case studies
