Bacterial Genetics in the Omics Era

Call for Papers

Current knowledge on bacterial genetics has enormously benefited from the developments achieved in high-throughput technologies, particularly of those devoted to nucleic acid sequencing and peptide identification by mass spectrometry, as well as from the fast development of powerful and user-friendly bioinformatics tools and techniques for single cell analysis. These developments, together with novel expression vectors, probes, reporter genes, and other genetics tools, synergistically impacted both fundamental and applied bacterial genetics research, in fields ranging from microorganisms evolution and metabolic pathways to medical microbiology, agriculture, industry, ecology, genetics, and environment.

Researchers are invited to contribute original research and review articles that will stimulate the continuing developments of the exciting research in the field of bacterial genetics and its wide range of applications. We are particularly interested in articles describing novel genetics, bioinformatics, and other tools, and in articles describing the use of bacterial genetics in conjugation with the exploitation of the wealth of information originating from omics in specific problems related to health, agriculture, industry, and environment. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Novel vectors, reporter genes and microorganisms, infection models, and other genetics tools
  • Other recent bacterial genetics-related developments
  • State of the art genetics techniques including single cell analys
  • Advances in high-throughput methodologies
  • Applications of genomics and proteomics to bacterial genetics
  • Genetic mechanisms of interaction between eukaryotic hosts, their associated microbiota, and invading pathogens
  • Host responses to pathogens
  • Genetic regulation within host-associated microbial communities
  • Examples of the use of omics approaches to solve specific problems of bacterial genetics both in fundamental and applied research
  • Host and microbial communities coevolution
