Importance of IL-18 for the development of P. acnes/LPS-induced liver injury. P. acnes-primed wild-type (WT) showed liver necrosis after LPS challenge. However, treatment with neutralizing anti-IL-18 just before LPS challenge could protect against this liver injuries [17]. Furthermore, mice were resistant to the sequential treatment with P. acnes and LPS [18].
