The Frequent Adiponutrin (PNPLA3) Variant p.Ile148Met Is Associated with Early Liver Injury: Analysis of a German Pediatric Cohort

The prosteatotic PNPLA3 variant p.Ile148Met is associated with higher serum ALT activity at young age. Serum ALT activities differ significantly (ANOVA ) between carriers of different PNPLA3 genotypes. Especially children carrying the PNPLA3 p.148Met/Met variant present with significantly () higher ALT as compared to the carriers of the common variant PNPLA3 p.148Ile/Ile (a). Presence of this variant was not associated with other liver function tests ((b) and (c)).
