Precancerous Lesions in Gastrointestinal Tract

Call for Papers

There are many cases of cancers in gastrointestinal tract which are arisen form precancerous (premalignant) lesions. This brings a window of opportunity both for patients to be scheduled for surveillance procedures and get their cancers diagnosed earlier, and for scientists to look at the steps of development of cancer.

In this issue, the major focus would be on evidence for surveillance and the way it should be done. There would be also some discussion on steps in malignant degeneration whenever we have data. Treatment options are not discussed. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Premalignant lesions in esophagus (caustic injury, early cancerous changes, and achalasia)
  • Barrett's esophagus
  • Intestinal metaplasia as a premalignant lesion in stomach
  • Adenomatous polyps in stomach
  • Postgastric surgery malignancies
  • Genetic premalignant lesions (FAP, Peutz-Jeghers, HNPCC, etc.)
  • Malignancy in the setup of colitis
  • Psychologic aspects of cancer surveillance
