Helicobacter pylori Infection and Upper Gastrointestinal Disorders
Call for Papers
In 1983, Warren and Marshall discovered Helicobacter pylori, which is undoubtedly the dominant factor in the multifactorial etiology of peptic ulcer disease and is associated with other upper gastrointestinal disorders. It is a microaerophilic gram-negative organism which infects nearly half of the human population. It has been implicated in many upper gastro- intestinal diseases like chronic gastritis, gastric cancer, and gastric lymphoma. Recently, certain extraintestinal and autoimmune conditions have also been reported to be associated with H. pylori infection. The most important among them are iron deficiency anaemia and immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Ever since its discovery, H. pylori has been linked to a multitude of diseases, resulting in voluminous data on its prevalence in various diseases. Other conditions with doubtful association with H. pylori infection include stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and idiopathic Parkinson's disease, ischemic heart disease, and chronic urticaria.
We particularly find an interest in manuscripts that report relevance of Helicobacter pylori infection in uncomplicated/complicated peptic ulcer and functional dyspepsia. Reviews that summarize the results of clinical trials on the role of eradication of H. pylori in gastric cancer, the recent advances in the diagnosis of H. pylori, and treatment strategies for H. pylori infection. Moreover, papers dealing with H. pylori and gastroesophageal reflux disease, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), and iron-deficiency anemia would be welcomed. Papers dealing with H. pylori negative peptic ulcer disease will be considered for giving a broad overview of peptic ulcer disease. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- H. pylori in peptic ulcer and its complications
- Role of H. pylori in the management of functional dyspepsia
- H. pylori therapy in the prevention of gastric cancer (reviews)
- Recent advances in the diagnosis of H. pylori (reviews)
- The significance of H. pylori virulence factors
- Therapy for H. pylori – current concepts (reviews)
- H. pylori and GERD
- H. pylori and ITP/iron-deficiency anemia
- H. pylori negative peptic ulcer disease
- H. pylori – commensal or pathogen?
- Liability and reinfection of H. pylori
- H. pylori infection: Western versus Far East Perspectives
