Climate Changes: Impact on Agronomy Practice and Food Security
Call for Papers
The climate changes affect temperature and rainfall distribution in quantity and intensity, increasing water and salinity. Climate change is already having dramatic effects on agriculture, forests, natural resources, and people’s livelihoods. In the different world regions, the changes are different, but a common base is that the phenomenon intensity strongly increases. Humans have to operate on the causes of the climatic changes, as agreed in the Kyoto Protocol, but have also to change crops and cultivation practices in order to adapt the production to the new situations.
The challenges are to reduce vulnerability of those sectors which are most sensitive to climate variability, namely, agriculture, forests, energy, and water resources and to climate proofing future development activities.
We invite investigators to contribute original as well as review articles agronomy practices that act to obstacles and/or manage the climatic changes; this include irrigation and water management, plant breeding, new pathogen, yield aspects, and production quality. Potential topics include, but not limited to:
- Exploitation of germplasm adapted to the new requirements
- Genes for biotic and abiotic resistance/tolerance
- Plant breeding in developing climate-resistant crop varieties
- Effect of climate changes on weeds, soil microbial, and macrofaunal populations
- New pathogens and their management
- Cropping systems and their effects on the microclimate
- Water management in relation with its quality and quantity
- Economic impacts of climate changes on agriculture
- The social impacts of climate changes on developing agriculture farmers
- Climate changes and food security
- Changes on the crop management practices
- Crop impact as renewable energy sources
- Effects of climate changes on crop competitive ability and yield
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ija/guidelines/.
