The five basic affine transformations are translate, rotate, scale, shear, and reflection. Translate moves a set of points a fixed distance in - and -directions, Rotate rotates a set of points about the origin, Scale scales a set of points up or down in - and -directions, and Shear offsets a set of points a distance proportional to their - and -coordinates. Reflection produces a mirror image of a set of points in - or -directions.
