Current transients and coefficients of friction (COF) recorded before, during, and after sliding wear test at fixed potentials for an AISI 304 stainless steel in 0.5M NaCl solution: (a) -320 mV and -200 mV; (b) -50 mV and 70 mV. Removing the passive layer generates an increase in the current transient, with higher shifts at higher applied potentials. The coefficient of friction also varies with applied potential [24].
