Recent Advances in Polymeric and Nanocomposite Materials for Corrosion Protection
Call for Papers
Polymeric and nanocomposite materials are an active area of research today because of the possibilities of synthesizing materials with unique physical-chemical properties. They consist of polymers from both commercial and renewable resources with the inclusion of nanosized inorganic reinforcements that serve to strengthen the overall properties of the final polymeric and composite materials. The properties of the final product depend upon the nature of individual constituents (structure, origin, type of polymer matrix; type, shape, size, orientation, and distribution of nanofillers, i.e., nanoclay, nanometal oxides, conducting polymers, CNT, fibres, and others), processing methods, and conditions. Polymeric and nanocomposite materials have found versatile applications as scratch resistant, impact resistant, abrasion resistant, wear resistant, flame-retardant, conducting, bioactive, hard yet tough, and anticorrosive coatings along with other applications such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, biomedical implants, nonlinear optics, mechanically reinforced lightweight materials, sensors, nanowires, batteries, bioceramics, energy conversion, and many others.
This special issue will focus on research and review papers on the synthesis, formulation, processing methods, properties, applications, and other state of the art concerning the modifications in the field of polymeric and nanocomposite materials finally making it applicable in corrosion protection. Potential topics include, but are limited to:
- Synthesis and application methods of polymeric and nanocomposite materials as barriers, corrosion inhibitors, corrosion retarders, coatings, and paints for corrosion protection
- Recent advances in corrosion protection by polymeric and nanocomposite materials
- Mechanisms underlying corrosion protection by polymeric and nanocomposite materials
- New developments and design of techniques (potentiodynamic polarization measurements, open circuit potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and others) to monitor and evaluate corrosion control
- Advantages, drawbacks, and future prospects
- Environment friendly, green, or renewable resource-based polymeric and nanocomposite materials for corrosion protection
- Several other applications of such materials like bioactive, barrier, marine, defence, aerospace, high-performance, smart coatings, and so forth
