Consequences of Neutralization on the Proliferation and Cytoskeletal Organization of Chondrocytes on Chitosan-Based Matrices

FTIR spectra for nonneutralized films showing the peaks at 1560 cm−1 and 1400 cm−1 corresponding to the asymmetric and symmetric carboxylate ion stretching [48] characteristic of the presence of acetate ion in the chitosan acetate salt. FTIR spectra of chitosan films that were neutralized with varying concentrations of NaOH show the amide I (C=O stretching) and amide II (N–H bending) peaks at 1656 cm−1 and 1546 cm−1, respectively, characteristic of chitosans not completely deacetylated. Also they show the presence of a peak at 1591 cm−1 which corresponds to the N–H stretching of the NH2 (amine) group.
