Maxillary Sinus in Relation to Modern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Call for Papers

Maxillary sinuses are often involved in oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures due to their anatomical proximity to teeth and oral structures. Surgical procedures which can invade the maxillary sinus should be performed after a careful radiographic and clinical examination in order to avoid the occurrence of unfavourable consequences, such as Schneiderian membrane perforation and subsequent potential infection or discomfort for patients. Nowadays, several techniques exist to approach oral and maxillofacial surgery in cases in which the involvement of maxillary sinus is unavoidable. Furthermore, many techniques are described with the aim of increasing bone volume, lifting sinus membrane, and allowing new bone formation underneath the membrane itself, in order to allow dental implant insertion. Also alternatives to sinus lifting have been proposed in the literature.

We invite authors to submit original research and review articles that will allow greater insights of the implications of the maxillary sinus anatomy in oral and maxillofacial surgery and articles describing the management of the sinus membrane during surgical procedures. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• Anatomy of the maxillary sinus
• Presurgical examination before sinus surgery procedure
• Sinus lifting surgical techniques to increase bone volume
• Postsurgical complications after sinus surgery
• Biomaterials for bone regeneration in sinus lifting procedures
• Alternatives to sinus lifting procedure to allow implant positioning
