Advanced Convergence Technologies and Practices for Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks

Call for Papers

Recently, the massive development and deployment of ubiquitous computing system are expected to provide numerous ubiquitous and pervasive applications/services (e.g., smart grid, intelligent building, healthcare, automotive, etc.). A ubiquitous system is necessarily distributed, thus requiring the concepts and technologies of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks to support it. Over the past decade, tremendous technological advances have been made in the fields of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks; however, traditional techniques are not sufficient to accommodate a variety number of ubiquitous applications and services in the right way.

In this regard, the aim of this special issue is to foster state-of-the-art research in the development of communications, computing, and security technologies for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks. Particularly, this special issue will show the most recent advancements in the variety type of technological integration of machine-to-machine communication, cloud computing, and embedded system with wireless ad hoc and sensor network domain. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Communication and networking for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Resource management for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Cross-layer protocol design for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Cooperative transmission system for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Cooperative localization, tracking, and data fusion for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Mobility and scalability support for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Data processing and context awareness for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Trust, security, and privacy issues for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Short-range communications technologies and specification enhancements (e.g., WPANs, WBANs)
  • Machine-to-machine communication/architecture/platform
  • Smart grid application and technologies for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
  • Intrusion detection and memory dump security in sensor network and smart grid convergence
  • Network security and digital forensics for wireless platform
  • Prototypes, services, application test beds, field trials, and simulation tools
