Treatment of Primary Aldosteronism and Organ Protection

Table 2

Summary of results obtained in studies that evaluated the long-term response of left ventricular mass to either medical treatment or surgical treatment in primary aldosteronism.

StudyFollow-up yearsMedical treatmentSurgical treatment
BaselineEnd of studyBaselineEnd of study

Catena et al.,
2007 [28]
6.452 ± 244 ± 253 ± 243 ± 2
Giacchetti et al.
2007 [49]
3.7135 ± 4125 ± 7126 ± 5116 ± 5
Bernini et al.,
2012 [50]
2.765 ± 265 ± 358 ± 249 ± 3
Rossi et al.,
2013 [48]
3.050 ± 147 ± 153 ± 149 ± 1

Values of left ventricular mass index are expressed as g/m2.7 except for the study of Giacchetti et al. () that expressed as left ventricular mass (g). versus baseline.
Data in the table have been included in a meta-analysis [51] showing that effects of medical and surgical treatment of primary aldosteronism on left ventricular mass are not significantly different.
