Diabetic Renal Disease

Description

Diabetic renal disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. It is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease and of renal replacement in most countries; it is also associated with decreased survival.

Whilst significant progress has been made in understanding its pathophysiology, significant gaps in knowledge remain. Blood pressure control and blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system are effective in reducing the rate of progression of diabetic renal disease, but there is still a large unmet need in the development of new treatment modalities.

We invite authors to submit original research articles as well as review articles on the subject of diabetic renal disease. This includes all aspects of renal disease associated with diabetes, including nonalbuminuric renal disease and renovascular disease. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Epidemiology of diabetic renal disease
  • Pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy
  • Clinicopathological correlation, prognostic value, and therapeutic implications of the 2010 Renal Pathology Society histopathological classification of diabetic nephropathy
  • Genetic factors in the initiation and/or progression of diabetic renal disease
  • Novel diagnostic modalities, such as the use of proteinomics
  • Prognostic indicators, including the use of biomarkers
  • Novel therapeutic modalities
  • Complications associated with diabetic renal disease
  • Cost-effective studies in the treatment of diabetic renal disease

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ije/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ije/renal/ according to the following timetable:
