Detailes of pairwise species comparisons. Closely related species groups were defined based on a phylogenetic tree of Ophrys (ref. 36 in the main text) and Chiloglottis (ref. 22); information on species distribution and floral traits were extracted from ref. 33 (for Ophrys), and ref. 38 (for Chiloglottis); pollinator information was extracted from ref. 37 (for both Ophrys and Chiloglottis). Overlap of distribution, pollinator and chemical types were evaluated qualitatively (yes or no), whereas overlap in floral lip length, floral phenology and altitude distribution were evaluated quantitatively.
