Distribution of lateritic soils (latosols) on the continental masses of Gondwanaland ([9–11], see [5, Figure  6.3]). The location of the Gondwanan land masses in the Late Cretaceous, 80 million years ago, is shown on a stereographic projection of the Southern Hemisphere between latitude 20°S to the South Pole [12].
