Schematic of the sandwich-type lectin-based sensor for electrochemical analysis of glycan expression on cells. A glassy carbon electrode was modified with gold nanoparticles, thioglycolic acid and lectins, and nonspecific adsorption to the electrode was blocked by BSA. Cell-surface glycans were bound to the lectin-modified electrode, and gold nanoparticles modified with lectins and thionine were subsequently bound to the cells to create the sandwich.
