IRM acquisition (ascending curve on right) and Lowrie-Fuller test (two descending AF demagnetization curves on left) of a representative powdered sample. Open circles = IRM; solid circles = ARM. In all samples, the IRM saturates by 300 mT, indicating that magnetite is a primary carrier of the remanence. The ARM is more resistant to AF demagnetization than the IRM, showing that the remanence is held largely in single-domain or pseudo-single-domain grains.
