Ethanol and oleic acid induced fat accumulation requires ethanol metabolism. Oil Red O staining after 48 hours in the presence of increasing concentrations of oleic acid either with or without the addition of 0.25 mM 4-methylpyrazole (4MP) to inhibit ethanol metabolism. Results were from the ORO-based detection of neutral lipids in (a) oleate alone-treated (control) cells and (b) WIF-B cultures treated with both oleic acid and 25 mM ethanol.
