Carbon Black Particle Exhibits Size Dependent Toxicity in Human Monocytes

Percentage of cells capable of phagocytosing the indicator latex beads after the uptake of test particles (i.e., phagocytic monocytes). Cells were exposed to 1/2TC-50, TC-50, and 2TC-50 concentrations of nano carbon (295.7 μg/mL, 591.4 μg/mL, and 1182.8 μg/mL, resp.) and micro carbon (343.5 μg/mL, 687.1 μg/mL and 1374.2 μg/mL, resp.) for 4 h. The results are expressed as a percentage relative to controls and are presented as mean ± SEM of three independent replicate experiments. Significance is indicated by versus control.
