Means and Their Inequalities

Description

Means have attracted attention of mathematicians since the ancient times. It is well known that several means have been introduced by ancient Greek mathematicians, starting with Pythagoras, whose school is credited with discovering the arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic means while developing a theory of music. Their algebraic and geometric appeal together with their numerous applications in areas such as probability, statistics, and engineering made means an indispensable tool in science and have kept the subject alive and dynamically growing.

This special issue is devoted to all aspects of the subject. Investigators are invited to submit original research articles as well as review articles that would enhance the understanding of and stimulate and activate research in the field. Articles relating means to other disciplines such as geometry, probability, and functional equations are also welcome. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Generalizations of bivariate means to means of several variables
  • Inequalities involving well-known families of means (such as Stolarsky, Gini, and Seiffert means)
  • Inequalities involving convex combinations of means
  • Iterative means
  • Quasiarithmetic means and their characterizations
  • Means as mean values
  • Means as best approximants
  • Operator and functional means
  • Means arising from geometric configurations

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijmms/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
