Surface Plasmon States in Inhomogeneous Media at Critical and Subcritical Metal Concentrations

The surface plasmons density of states (DOS) (a) and localization length (b) are calculated for an ensemble of 100 metal-dielectric films each with size 1𝜇𝑚. Four different metal filling fractions are investigated: 𝑝=0.1 (yellow color), 𝑝=0.2 (green color), 𝑝=0.3 (blue color), and 𝑝=0.5 (red color). The singularity at the band center and its dependence on the metal concentration is closely inspected in the insets [24, Figure 2].
