Solar Energy: New Trends on Grid Integration for PV Systems

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Currently, the electricity sector is undergoing an important transformation worldwide due to a rising requirement for the development of sustainable energy and replacement of existing energy sources with sustainable ones. This has contributed to the wider dissemination of technologies that use renewable resources. Therefore, solar energy, in particular photovoltaic (PV) solar energy, plays an important role as one of the most promising energy technologies that does not negatively contribute to global warming and climate change.

There has been an increase in the global use of PV technologies, due in part to the decreasing costs for PV modules and power converters and partly because of the need to have more reliable, efficient, and clean energy. Consequently, there is a growing interest in using solar irradiance for electricity generation, as well as in the design of new materials, new energy storage systems, new power converters, and new control techniques among others, for these types of applications.

Nevertheless, the integration of PV generation into the large-scale grids of the current power distribution systems often requires planning alongside impact analysis at the transmission and distribution system level. This is required mainly to consider and evaluate the variability and uncertainty introduced by this power generation source.

In this regard, this special issue aims to focus on recent advancements and new trends for grid integration of PV solar systems. We invite original manuscripts presenting recent advances in this field, alongside review articles discussing the latest technology.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • New trends with respect to grid integration for PV systems
  • Energy storage for PV solar energy used in large-scale grids
  • New power converter topologies for PV solar systems for grid integration, including modeling and designs
  • Advanced control techniques for PV solar energy applications in large-scale grid systems
  • Stability analysis of grid-connected PV systems
