Dynamics in Photoexcited DNA Bases and Related Molecules

Description

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), the hereditary basis of life’s genetic identity, has prompted extensive research interest since its structure was determined several decades ago. Nucleobases, or simply bases, are one primary building block of a DNA molecule and are the UV chromophores in DNA molecules. Electronic dynamics resulted from photoexcitation of these building block molecules plays an important role in the deactivation of photoxcited DNA bases which is essential for life. Since the development of ultrafast laser pulses and high performance computers, there has been tremendous progress in understanding the electronic dynamics of DNA bases, but it is far from complete.

We solicit original research articles as well as review articles that will prompt further understanding of the electronic dynamics in photoexcited DNA bases and related molecules. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Excited-state dynamics of DNA bases and related molecules
  • Electronic coupling between DNA bases and related molecules
  • Photochemistry of DNA fragments
  • Photodissociation of DNA bases and related molecules
  • Solvent effects on the electronic excited-state dynamics
  • Hydrogen bonding and transfer in the excited states
  • Effect of substituents on the excited-state dynamics

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijp/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ijp/ddna/ according to the following timetable:
