Linear regression of total RNA quality (RIN) and the relative mass of the small RNA population determined for forty human, mouse and rat tissues. A significant negative correlation coefficient, , , df = 38, derived from the regression indicates that total RNA quality is an essential component of small RNA cloning in that higher quality RNA retains a more pure small RNA fraction but, as a corollary, that enrichment of the small RNA fraction prior to cloning is crucial to success.
