Neglected Infectious Diseases: Mechanism of Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, and Immune Response

Description

Neglected infectious diseases (NIDs) represent a major global health challenge. The immediate need is to rise comprehensive control programs based on multidisciplinary approaches that include environmental, therapeutic, diagnoses, and other measures. Also, NIDs may spread into the population in developed countries due to demographic change. Recent advances in biology and medicine have introduced new technologies to study and understand the epidemiology, the reinfection and coinfections, and the mechanisms of the development of resistance in NIDs.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the NIDs, the development of strategies to treat these diseases, and the evaluation of outcomes. We are particularly interested in articles describing the advances in molecular genetics and molecular diagnostics; new insights into reducing morbidity and mortality, and current concepts in the treatment of NIDs. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Tropical NIDS (Buruli ulcer, Chagas disease, dengue, dracunculiasis (guinea-worm disease), fascioliasis, Human African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis; leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, rabies, schistosomiasis; soil transmitted helminthiasis, trachoma, yaws, and zoonotic NIDs (anthrax, bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis, cysticercosis, echinococcus, leptospirosis, and rift valley fever)
  • Recent developments in NIDs research
  • Impact of NIDs diseases on the populations
  • Recent advances in new vaccines to allow prevention and control of NIDs
  • New diagnostics to detected NIDs

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ipid/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
