Analysis of steady-state NOS mRNA expression. Real-time PCR analysis of eNOS (a), iNOS (b), and nNOS (c) mRNA relative to beta-2 microglobulin levels following treatment with 50 ng/mL NGF in the presence or absence of 2.0 mM S-MIU. Treatment with NGF for 48 h resulted in a statistically significant (*) increase in the steady-state levels of all three isoforms of NOS. Pretreatment with S-MIU prevented the NGF-mediated increase in eNOS and iNOS expression but increased relative nNOS mRNA levels above those observed following treatment with NGF alone (+).
