Immunomodulatory Effects of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) in BALB/c Mice

Effects of Danshen on host defenses against LM infection in liver (a) and spleen (b). Three days after i.v. injection of 5–8 × 10³ CFU, livers and spleens were harvested. The homogenates of liver and spleen were cultured on blood agar plates for quantification of CFU. Results for 0% Danshen (𝑛=36 of 14 separate experiments), 0.5% Danshen group (𝑛=24 of 8 separate experiments), 1% Danshen group (𝑛=26 of 10 separate experiments), and 2% Danshen group (𝑛=30 of 10 separate experiments) are shown as mean ± SD; *indicates statistically significant difference compared to the 0% Danshen group.
