Inflammatory Response in Patients under Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery and Clinical Implications: A Review of the Relevance of Dexmedetomidine Use

<table>Dexmedetomidine can exert its effects via activation of three (<i>α</i>-)2-adrenoreceptor subtypes. A subclass of (<i>α</i>-)2-adrenoreceptor located presynaptically ((<i>α</i>-)2A and (<i>α</i>-)2C) regulated the release of neurotransmitter (norepinephrine). Located postsynaptically, a subclass of (<i>α</i>-)2B-adrenoreceptor and also the (<i>α</i>-)1-adrenoceptor, while dexmedetomidine is not (<i>α</i>-)2-adrenoceptor selective. The (<i>α</i>-)2-adrenoceptors could exist also extrasynaptically.</table>
