A branch point off the cholesterol synthesis pathway results in the synthesis of the isoprenoids farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP) and geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP). FPP and GGPP serve as important lipid attachments for a variety of proteins. Geranylgeranylation is necessary for the function of the Rho family of GTPases, including RhoA.</table>
