Surfactants in Analytical Chemistry: Analytical Applications of Organized Surfactant Media

Call for Papers

Surfactants are among the most versatile chemicals used in various areas and known to play an important role in many processes of interest in fundamental and applied science such as cleaners, paints, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, medicine, and biochemical research. Over the years the use of surfactants has increased considerably. From these points of view the use of surfactants with different roles in sample-preparation methodologies is an important contribution to minimizing the problems arising from preprocessing or primary production processes such as recovery, purification of raw materials, or to enhance quality of finished products such as an emulsifier, an extraction medium, ion pair-based extraction, solubilizing agent, and excipients. In addition to these properties surfactant micelles provide an attractive model system for biomembranes. Surfactants have also been used to modify a surface property in interface of liquid and solid surface in various areas, especially in the wastewater treatments. Knowledge and understanding of surfactant systems have led to the development of successful models to provide useful information for industrial applications. Trends and recent applications of analytical methods such as spectrophotometry, fluorimetry, and potentiometric analysis have been the most widely used investigation techniques to study on organized molecular assemblies.

This issue welcomes the submission of research papers concerning significant or new analytical methodologies in organized surfactant media as well as review articles concerning all aspects of theory and practice of surfactants in analytical chemistry. This issue publishes original papers concerning applications of surfactant-based ordered media in analytical chemistry. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Macromolecular self-organized assemblies
  • Micellar kinetics
  • Environmental impact of surfactants
  • Adsorption and separation processes
  • Solubilization by solutions of surfactants
  • Membrane mimics in pharmacy
  • Substance-surfactant interactions (dye, drug, etc.)
  • Synthesis of novel surfactants
  • Biosurfactants
  • Applications in industry
