Interventions in Cord Blood Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Call for Papers
Human cord blood hematopoietic stem cells are an easily accessible resource with high therapeutic potential against a large number of diseases. Thereby, cord blood has served as an efficient alternative to bone marrow for hematopoietic transplantation. Low cell count and delayed engraftment represent two major obstacles in cord blood transplantation. Current experimental strategies such as ex vivo expansion of primitive cord blood cells, targeting of homing molecules by cytokines and growth factors, or coinfusion with mesenchymal stem cells aim to overcome these limitations.
Researchers working on cord blood stem cells are kindly invited to submit original research articles about their basic experiments or review articles on technical improvement of cord blood transplantation. Submission of review articles summarizing the latest development in this specific field is also welcomed. All accepted manuscripts will be published in the special issue of the Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology.
This special issue is particularly interested in articles that explore novel approaches on ex vivo expansion, targeting homing and engraftment outcome of cord blood stem cells. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Approaches to improved expansion of cord blood progenitors cells
- Recent advances in homing properties of transplanted stem cells
- Advances in genetic modifications of cord blood stem cells for improved transplantation
- Clinical trials on cord blood transplantations in hematology/oncology and non-blood-based disease
- New approaches to quantifying and monitoring the number of HSCs in cord blood preparations before and after interventions
- Comparison of cord blood and bone marrow stem cell transplantation strategies
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jbb/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
| Manuscript Due | Friday, 11 May 2012 |
| First Round of Reviews | Friday, 3 August 2012 |
| Publication Date | Friday, 28 September 2012 |
