ZnO as an Efficient and Inexpensive Catalyst for One Pot Synthesis of 2, 4, 5 -Triphenyl-1H - imidazole Derivatives at Room Temperature

Abstract

An improved and rapid one pot synthesis of 2,4,6-triphenyl-1H-imidazoles on condensation with benzil, aromatic aldehyde and NH₄OAc has been carried out using ZnO as an efficient and inexpensive catalyst in high yield at room temperature. The short reaction time, good yields (60-93%), environmental friendly procedure, mild reaction condition and convenient operation are important advantage of these synthetic methods.
