The Newest Member of the Family of Chloralose: Synthesis of β-Ribochloralose and Some Derivatives

Reagent and conditions—(a) cat. H2SO4, reflux for 2 h, yield 28%; (b)1.2 equiv. potassium tert-butoxide in tert-butanol, at reflux for 3 h, yield 77%; (c)acetic anhydridein pyridine, for overnight in r.t., yield of 2, 94% and yield of 4, 88%; (d) (i) trityl chloride in pyridine, for overnight in r.t.; (ii) methyl iodide, BaO/Ba(OH)2.8H2O in DMF for overnight in r.t., (iii) concd.HCl in MeOH/H2O, at reflux for 3 h, yield 75%; (e) tosyl chloride in pyridine, r.t., yield 61%; (f) NaN3 in DMF at 115°C for 2 h, yield 77%; (g) PPh3 in methanol at reflux for 3 h, yield 72%.
