Applications of Nanomaterials in Water and Wastewater Treatment

Call for Papers

Nanotechnology holds great potential in advancing water and wastewater treatment to improve efficiency as well as to augment water supply through safe use of unconventional water sources. The aims of developing nanobased techniques and later on technologies to remediate polluted waters are in growing harmony with the Principles of Green Chemistry, and more broadly, Green Engineering and Technology. We invite investigators from all parts of the world to contribute original research articles as well as succinct review articles based on state-of-the-art publications that will compile, disseminate, and more importantly thrust the continuing efforts to better understand the recent development in applying nanoscience, nanoengineering, and nanotechnology for water and wastewater treatment. We are especially interested in articles describing candidate nanomaterials, properties and mechanisms that enable the applications, advantages and limitations as compared to existing processes, and barriers and research needs for commercialization. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Synthesis, characterisation, and test applications of nanomaterials and nanocatalysts in advanced oxidation processes for emerging contaminants removal
  • Synthesis and application of adsorbents nanocomposites and/or nanobased adsorbents/biosorbents for the uptake and removal of metal ions and organic pollutants
  • Use of nanomaterials in membrane technology and separation and purification processes
  • Fate of engineered nanomaterials in wastewater treatment plants
  • Economics of the nanobased techniques in water and wastewater remediation
  • Green chemistry considerations of the development and application of nanoscience in wastewater treatment
  • Challenges around the development of nanoscience as a disruptive technology for beneficial ends in water/wastewater treatment
