School Bullying and Victimization

Description

School bullying and victimization are a serious social and school issue with negative consequences on both victims and bullies across different cultures and countries. School bullying is physical, emotional, and psychological aggression to other students by a single student or a group of students occurring on and beyond school grounds. Empirical research indicates that bullying is a significant predictor of delinquency and criminal behaviors, while victims are more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and learning difficulties. Over the last decade, scholars concerned about students' well-being and safety have paid significant attention to school bullying problems, especially focusing on predictors of bullying.

The main goal of this special issue is to better understand the etiology of school bullying and victimization and suggest specific policy implication to address bullying. We therefore invite original research articles that seek to enhance our understanding and knowledge on these issues. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Predictors of school bullying and/or victimization
  • Psychosocial characteristics of aggressors and victims
  • School bullying and its later effect on delinquency and crime
  • School bullying and victimization in different cultural settings
  • Applicability of criminological theories in explaining school bullying/victimization
  • New perspectives: cyberbully and gender differences
  • School bullying prevention programs and effectiveness
