General characteristics of the animals. Mice were rendered diabetic via injection of alloxan (60 mg/kg i.v.) and infected with P. brasiliensis (1 × 10⁶ cells i.t.). Blood glucose levels and body weight gain in the diabetic and nondiabetic groups were determined 55 days after alloxan injection and again after the 45-day incubation period.
