Gut Flora and Its Implications in Metabolic Health
Call for Papers
The role of gut flora in pathophysiology of obesity and diabetes has recently been emerged and considered as a crucial target for drug discovery against these health illnesses. Gut flora regulates whole body homeostasis and plays crucial role in weight management and insulin sensitivity. Specialized gut flora occurrence and metabolic activities are tightly correlated with increased metabolic diseases (i.e., adiposity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular diseases). Metabolites produced by gut flora establish the interactions with host metabolism and reflect their effects on metabolic diseases. Various modulators, that is, probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and others have shown potential effects on changing the gut flora composition that alter host metabolic function.
The role of gut flora in modulation of metabolic health is an emerging area; hence in this special issue, we are particularly interested in manuscripts that address outstanding issues to clarify gaps, mechanisms of action, and host-microbe interactions that alter the metabolic function. This special issue will provide an international platform for researchers to present their exceptional work and most recent findings and ideas in the field. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Gut flora and its health implications: historical perspective
- Host-microbe interactions and their implications in metabolism
- Clinical studies of gut flora implications in metabolic diseases
- Modulators of gut flora and their effects on host metabolism
- Translational studies of gut flora modulation and its implications in host metabolism
- Molecular mechanisms describing metabolic beneficial effects of gut flora
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jdr/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/jdr/gfmh/ according to the following timetable:
