Design of High Throughput and Cost-Efficient Data Center Networks
Description
Data Centers (DC) are characterized by the sharing of computer and storage resources to support Internet services. Today, many companies (Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc.) use data centers to offer storage, web search, and large-computations services with multibillion dollars business. The servers are interconnected by elements (switches, routers, interconnection systems, etc.) of a network platform that is referred to as Data Center Network (DCN). New solutions have been introduced in the last years to increase the server and network resource utilization and to lower the operational cost but many challenges should be addressed. Some of them are the design of scalable and high bandwidth interconnection systems, the definition of new solutions for the power consumption reduction in DCN, and the introduction of Quality of Service (QoS) differentiation mechanisms for supporting different priority user requests.
We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles in which new solutions are proposed and evaluated for the high throughput and low cost DCN design.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Design of electrical, optical, and hybrid inter-DC and intra-DC interconnection systems to increase the DCN throughput
- Definition and evaluation of user request scheduling policies to support differentiated QoS
- DCN aware design through SDN, NFV, and network virtualization strategies
- Studies and evaluation of energy-aware optimization policies for green DCN
- Definition and evaluation of survivability and reliability policies for DCN
- Design of wireless DCN aiming to overcome oversubscription problems in highly time variable and asymmetric traffic conditions
- Developments of experimental test-beds for the feasibility study of new solutions for the design of high-throughput and low cost DCN
