Interaction between the foreland basin and an intracratonic basin depends on the distance between the two basins. If the basins are widely spaced, the basins will be decoupled and no interaction will occur (A). With closer spacing, the peripheral bulge of the intercratonic basin and the foreland basin will overlap producing arch (B). With even closer spacing, the peripheral bulge of the foreland basin and the intracratonic basin will overlap creating a lowered peripheral bulge and resulting in yoking of the basins (C, D).
